Have tried it and behaviour is identical. Google indicates that Mint 17.1 has a similar problem and I can confirm that. Searches here indicate some similar cases but involving keyboard freezes as well. No apparent logic or connection to what I'm doing, it's frozen mid drag and drop and after being left alone for a while. Keyboard still works and I can restart the machine, whereupon the mouse works just fine.for anywhere between a couple of minutes and 3 hours. Much faster than Wheezy and everything seems to work. Started Jessie and was amazed at how quick it is. Rebooted and it seems there is a problem with GRUB - didn't write to the drive, but that's easily fixable. The installation went very smoothly and I was pleasantly surprised at the second last screen where a choice of desktops was offered. Had previously installed Jessie over the top of Wheezy, as an upgrade, but really looking for a cleaner install. With the release of RC2 for Jessie I decided to give it a try.
